It’s been a while since we’ve introduced an Innovator from our team! The past two ttc team members we’ve highlighted, Jenny and Andrea, are Innovators on Demand®. These ladies and many of our other Extra Hands You Don’t Have to Hold® collectively provide staff augmentation services. Emily, on the other hand, works both in the heart of our organization on our employee team and on our team of consultants. Her commitment to excellence is only one of the many things we love about Emily, and when she isn’t working, you can find her in the kitchen cooking up something sweet! Without further ado, meet Emily!
How long have you been with ttcInnovations?
I’ve been contracting with ttc since 2011 and just recently joined the employee team in January 2019.
What is your role?
I am currently working as an editor and the human resources liaison, but have worn a few other hats over the years, including quality assurance, mentor, and project assistant.
What is your favorite thing about your role?
I love my two roles for completely opposite reasons. Editing is very solitary by nature, so I like to put on some background music and just get in the zone. HR is very different in that it’s highly collaborative and looks different every day. Sometimes I get to meet new contractors and introduce them to this amazing organization; other times, I get to brainstorm with my coworkers on new ways to help our Innovators be successful in their roles. Switching gears between super detail-oriented work and more creative, open-ended work was difficult at first, but I’ve really come to enjoy the variety!
Where do you enjoy working remotely and why?
Home is where the heart is, no? I rarely work outside the house, but do like to move from room to room depending on my mood. I just recently redid my office and am loving the change!
Tell us about your pups!
Gladly! I have a 10-year-old cattle dog named Maddie and a 4-year-old German Shepherd named Cozmo. They are both rescues with very distinct personalities and boundless energy! While they’re not very comfortable around strangers or other dogs, they adore my husband and me. We get an awful lot of snuggles!
Coffee or tea?
Black coffee in the morning, iced or green tea in the afternoon/evening
What does life look like outside of work?
Baking has always been a big part of my life, so I like to whip up a batch of cookies or maybe a pie whenever I’m stressed. In fact, I went to culinary school two years ago and made an Egyptian-themed display for my final! (Now that was stress-inducing, not stress-relieving!) I’m also incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to travel often with my family.
Your 3 favorite desk must-haves?
A mug warmer (because sometimes it takes me an hour to drink one cup of coffee), my planner (because if I don’t write it down somewhere, I’ll forget), and my headset (because with a quiet voice and bad hearing, I need all the help I can get).
Which core value of ttcInnovations resonates the most with you and why?
Quality. As an editor, this has always been my biggest priority. If the final product isn’t the best possible quality, then what was the point of all the hard work, time and money spent?
What is your professional superpower?
I often see things that others miss.

If you could only bring three things with you while stranded on a desert island, what would they be?
I have to go practical and say a good knife, some flint rock, and a copy of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (only the essentials, right?).
